How Much Will a Drip Irrigation System Save Me?

Drip irrigation systems are much more efficient, saving as much as 80% of the water normally used in other types of irrigation systems. sprinkler systems. Drip irrigation goes straight into the ground and isn’t susceptible to run-off, drift, or evaporation. This adds up to a considerable amount of water conserved annually and, at Andy’s Sprinkler, Drainage & Lighting we are continuously improving our irrigation systems.

As a general rule of thumb, a healthy lawn requires about one inch of water each week during the dry season. Providing this one inch of water requires a little over one-half gallon of water per square foot (.6 gallons). Conventional irrigation is only about 60% effective due to runoff, drift, and evaporation. So, in reality, we need to increase the amount of water by 40% bringing the amount of water per sq. foot to .84 gallons.

For every 10-foot square area, you will need to water 84 gallons! Imagine a lawn that is 200 feet by 200 feet, which would require 33,600 gallons of water per week!

To determine the amount of water you use on your landscaping and lawn, measure the width and length and multiply them together to determine the total square footage. Then multiply that number by .84, and this will give you the total amount of water your lawn and landscaping require weekly.

Consider a lawn that is approximately 100 feet by 75 feet in size, or 7500 feet square. A lawn of this size requires approximately 6,300 gallons of water weekly. If the cost of water is $2 per 1000 gallons, it will cost around $12.60 to water this lawn each week. That’s $655 per year and 327,600 gallons of water!

Now, if this same lawn had a drip irrigation system installed by Andy’s Sprinkler, Drainage & Lighting, it would only cost around $5 of water per week to keep the lawn healthy. This means this person could save up to $395 approximately every year by installing a drip irrigation system! Not to mention the amount of water they would be saving. This person’s drip irrigation system could save around 164,000 gallons of water annually.

As you can see, installing a drip irrigation system can save you money and conserve water.
