Sprinkler, Drainage, & Landscape Lighting Services in Austin, TX
Austin Sprinkler System Experts
A sprinkler system is an irrigation method that applies water to your lawn or garden with a series of underground pipes and heads. Sprinkler systems may be customized to meet the watering demands of your lawn or garden and can be activated automatically on a timetable. Installing an automated sprinkler is an easy way to keep your lawn or garden wet without you having to do it manually. However, you must pick the appropriate sprinkler system for your needs and understand how to operate and maintain it properly.
Many Austin, TX homes already have effective sprinkler systems. That doesn’t preclude the possibility of something going wrong in those systems. At Andy’s Sprinkler, Drainage, & Lighting, we repair existing sprinkler systems to handle water leaks, coverage problems, and anything else that will risk damage to your home or lawn.
There are some homes that don’t already have adequate irrigation systems. This can happen when you do a major landscape redesign. Maybe you wanted to add a pool or a hot tub. In any case, rerouting the sprinkler system is often necessary, and we can help you design and install the rerouted system.
When everything seems fine, then all you need is a little maintenance. With routine sprinkler system checkups, you can avoid catastrophic problems and enjoy peace of mind knowing that your system is in top shape.
Sprinkler System Repair and Maintenance in Austin, TX
It is important to have your sprinkler system regularly serviced and repaired by a professional. Over time, parts of your system may become worn or damaged and need to be replaced. A professional can also help you troubleshoot any problems you may be having with your system.
Like any other type of machinery, sprinkler systems require regular maintenance and may occasionally need repairs. However, proper maintenance of the sprinkler system will help your system run smoothly and efficiently, and can help prevent problems from developing.
Common problems with sprinkler systems include broken heads, leaks in the system, and clogged nozzles. These and other problems can often be fixed relatively easily by the homeowner. However, more serious problems may require the help of a professional.
If you live in Austin, TX, and are in need of sprinkler system repair or maintenance, contact Andy’s Sprinkler Drainage Today!
Upgrade to Drip Irrigation
It’s never too late to improve water usage and efficiency at your Austin, TX house. An upgraded drip irrigation system can help you keep your plants properly watered without all the waste of older systems. Your drip irrigation won’t just save on water usage, it will also minimize soil and nutrient displacement. The result is healthier plants that cost less to maintain.
Drip irrigation systems are more accessible than you might expect. Because they work by bringing water as close to the plant roots as possible, they require less water pressure, and the materials for drip systems are often less pricey than high-pressure irrigation systems. At Andy’s Sprinkler, we encourage everyone to explore drip irrigation and see what it can offer to their outdoor space.
Yard Drainage Solutions in Austin
The absence of a suitable drainage system in your yard is not difficult to miss. If you do not have a proper drainage system in place, you might experience soggy lawns, waterlogged gardens or various issues. It’s time to install a good drainage system if your yard is soggy and mushy because of clogged water.
As much as sprinkler systems are great for delivering water, there is just as much need to remove water from areas. As experts in yard drainage solutions in the Austin area, Andy’s offers remedies to backups, clogs and insufficient draining.
Installing a drainage system may appear difficult, but if you prepare ahead of time and have the necessary materials, it may be completed on the weekend. Many yard drainage techniques are available, including dry creeks, French drains, and underground pipes driven in trenches.
These methods can all be done on your own, and some will only need the assistance of a professional. The procedure may be time-consuming and physically taxing, but you’ll have a dry lawn without standing water!
We regularly deal with the following common drain designs:
- Channel drains work a lot like gutters but for the ground. They can handle massive runoff and prevent pooling in areas where you don’t want it.
- French drains make use of existing slopes in the lawn to find and relieve areas where water is likely to pool.
- Catch basins provide larger runoff surfaces and a grate system to manage debris that gets swept up in runoff.
- Sump pumps provide a direct means to forcibly remove excess water where natural runoff might not be an option.
When we evaluate your landscape, we’ll help you assess which drainage technique is best suited and craft a plan to install it with minimal disruption.
How to Install a French Drain
A French drain is a garden trench dug in the ground and then filled with gravel. This system is used to redirect water away from problem areas in your yard, such as near your foundation or next to your house.
Things required and Procedure:
- Landscape fabric
- Gravel
- Shovel
- PVC pipes
- Handheld drill
- Paint for the landscape
The first step in placing a French drain system in your yard is to draw a sketch of the hole you’ll dig up in the ground with. Start digging the designated path with the shovel. The trenches should be about 2 to 2 1/2 inches deep and 5 to 6 inches wide. To use the dirt later, make sure you pile it neatly on either side of the trench. After you’ve dug the yard’s whole course, lay the landscape cloth neatly over the trench on either side of it. Take a section of PVC drain pipe and drill small holes on one side with a hand drill. Make sure the holes are equally spaced at 1½ to 2 inches apart and all face the same way. To create an underground garden, first, dig a small trench into the ground. To keep dirt out and conceal the trench, cover it with a layer of landscape fabric. Then install this perforated PVC drain pipe in the trench that has been covered with landscape fabric. Make sure that the holes on the pipe are facing down within the trench. Place gravel in the trench after you’ve finished laying the whole length of the pipe inside it. For this project, rounded gravel with no prominent edges is best. Cover the sand with landscape cloth once it has been filled to 2 inches from the surface. After you’ve dug up your soil, place it on top of the landscape fabric and compact it carefully. The landscaping is now ready for planting!
How to Install a Dry Well
A dry well is your best option if you have moderate water standing in your yard and need a low-cost drainage solution for the yard. In essence, a dry well is simply a deep hole or ditch that is dug in the ground. To construct a dry well, you must first determine the lowest point in the yard and where standing water collects.
You should dig a hole in the ground that is about 3-4 feet deep when you’ve located the lowest point in your yard. The hole does not have to be enormous, but it must have enough depth. Finally, insert a piece of landscape cloth into the hole and then fill it with gravel. Wrap the fabric over the gravel when you’ve filled the hole to about eight inches from the ground. Next, add sand and dirt to the mix, compacting as much as possible. This in-ground drainage system will allow you to avoid dealing with water issues in your home and garden. In addition, by installing this in-ground drainage system, you may stop having to deal with damp lawns. This task will take some effort, but you won’t have to worry about drainage issues again.
