Plano Extends Watering Restrictions
The city of Plano announced recently that beginning April 1, residents will face extended watering restrictions. According to a story in the Plano Star-Courier, residents will be able to water every other week until April 30, when Stage 3 restrictions will be re-evaluated. Residents will not be allowed to water with sprinklers between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The water restrictions are in place, of course, due to the continued lack of rain we’ve had in the area that has led to low lake levels. Reservoirs have not recharged, a city official was quoted as saying in the article, and although the drought may have eased, the official said, the “hydrological drought” continues.
An Added Complication
Another contributing factor to the water restrictions is that water will not be accessible from Lake Texoma until after June 1 due to the infestation of zebra mussels. The infestation has make Texoma water off-limits since 2009. However, a pipeline extension is being constructed that will transport water directly from the lake to a water treatment plant in Wylie.
